A perfect song

Have you ever had those instances when you are doing something and you suddenly realise that the music that was playing in the background (maybe on your headphones or in the distance) syncs perfectly with the actions/ emotions/ motions that you are doing?

The sync can be at many levels – the music may reflect your mood, the words may pre-empt or crystallise what you were about to say, the beats or bridges may sync with you actions/ movement and make you feel like a conductor leading an orchestra. The sync can go at many levels.

I had such a beautiful moment today. We took off and entered the bumpy phase of turbulence into the clouds – the plane shaking and trying to break free into a clear sky. I watched as the wing of the aircraft sliced through the clouds, feeling the mild bumps – when all of a sudden we broke through the layer and the colours immediately changed from white and grey to shades of orange and red. We rose above the bed of rolling rain as the sun sunk in it in the distance, the colours of pre-dusk bathing the clouds above and below. It was one of those moments when you just stare in quiet amazement at the wonder that is nature – majestic and nonchalant. Exactly when the moment of wonder started to fade away, Porcupine Tree entered into a solo in ‘The Moon Touches your Shoulder through my headphones’, re-catapulting my imagination into the burning clouds. It was blissful, and surreal. A moment when there is nothing in your head – no thoughts, no worries, no mental to-do lists – just peace.

It was as if my mind was slow-dancing with the clouds on ‘our’ song.
